Good luck to everyone who has committed to represent the Club this season.

2017 - 2018 Season

Redwither provide fantastic support

Once again this season we acknowledge the excellent on-going support to the Squash Club from Redwither Ltd and, in particular to Malcolm Williams (Big Mal).

This very generous sponsorship and continued support of our teams will provide for our match balls and new shirts.

END OF SEASON REPORT (MAY 2018)

North East Wales League
First Team they performed well throughout the season to finish a comfortable 3rd place in Division 1. Captain, Richard Ackerley, mixed his team selection throughout the season introducing new players like young Layna Beattie and the older Dan Aimer & Ashley Peile into the fray. To top the season off they won the NE Wales Handicap Cup.
Second Team John Williams once again, with help from Kev & Julie and his "WhatsApp" Group, kept control over the team and finished a creditable 3rd place in a tough Division 2. Their season was capped by winning the NE Wales Plate competition. A plus for the season was the promotion of junior player, Josh Davies from the Third Team; Josh cemented his place in the Team for the second half.
Third Team Once again, Captain Marc Williams made it known he wanted promotion this season after coming so close last year. All of the Team put in some excellent performances and they did achieve promotion to the Division 2 for next season. Well done.
Fourth Team the Fourth Team was introduced into the second half of the season, playing in Division 3; the aim was to give some of our junior players the experience of league squash. Junior players involved were William & Jamie Silvester, David Thomas, Thomas Koscinski & Lewis Davies with Lindsey Silvester and a couple of old timers helping out when needed !
Valuable experience was gained by these younger players which should hold them in good stead for next season when, we hope, they will be fighting for places in the Second and Third teams.

North West Counties League
A very up and down season for the First and Second Teams in Division 2 with injuries, work issues and, perhaps a lack of commitment at certain times, which did not help matters. We maybe need to look again at the parallel team system we adopted, which didn't work out as expected.
Despite all that, both teams managed to stay in the Division thanks to some important wins during the last couple of weeks of the season.
The Third Team, however, performed admirably throughout the season even though some players needed to move up to the Firsts or the Seconds, sometimes at very short notice. They eventually went on to win the Division 3 by ONE POINT - on the last game of the season! The introduction of Josh Davies into the side, as a Junior, he gained us an extra point it was the key to us winning and Josh more than proved his selection by winning his last match 3-2. For the record, Geraint would not like to go on last ever again, if these circumstances were repeated !

Making good progress ...

It was a classic Youth v. Experience match as young Josh Davies played for the Second Team against Alan Coppack (Beaufort Park) in a NE Wales League match on 6 March 2018.

It was all court, skillful and physically demanding going into a fifth game, with Josh taking it - excellent squash both.

Youth v. Experience

A first for the Club

On 11 January 2018, Father and Son, Jonathan and Josh Davies played together for the first time in our NWCSL First Team, against St Asaph 1.

Josh (age just 13) was playing his first match in North West Counties Leagues and was unlucky not to win, losing out 9-11 in the fifth game !
Well done Josh.

MID SEASON REPORT (DECEMBER 2017)

North East Wales League

Our First Team finished in a comfortable mid table position during the first half with young Layna Beattie (15) making her debut for the Club. Richard Ackerley doing a very good job as Captain.
The Second Team, well marshalled by our own Jonald Trump, narrowly missed out on promotion to the First Division on the very last match, going down 5-0 to a strong Mollington Team, without winning a game !
Our Third Team was Captained by Marc Williams and missed out on promotion by a couple of points; although things could have been very different had the team above them not received a walkover in their last match !

The NW League MUST look to resolve this problem as walkovers are impacting on promotion and relegation issues.

Young Josh Davies (age 12) went through the first half unbeaten.

Some good, positive news is that a new Fourth Team, consisting mainly of juniors, has been entered to play in Division Three during the second half of the season - this could be very interesting !

North West Counties League
Both our First and Second Teams in the Second Division are having tough times. With injuries, non-availability and some below par performances, it could mean both teams may be involved in relegation battles unless fortunes change in the second half.
It has, however, been good to see youngsters Huw Williams, Layna Beattie & Elin Harlow all contributing to the teams at this higher level.
Meanwhile our Third Team hold second place in Division Three, with a game in hand on Tattenhall who top the Division; thet are our first opponents in the second half.
New players Dan Aimer & Rhys Williams have been welcome additions to the Team.

Second Team show their colours !

The NWCSL Second Team have made a strong start to the season and were first to wear their new shirts, courtesy of sponsorship from Redwither Ltd.

NWCSL Seconds - November 2017

First trophy of the season !

Congratulations to our Second Team (North Wales) on winning the season's curtain raiser on 19 September, The Gerald Shone Cup, beating Denbighshire LC 3-2.

Thanks in particular to the last minute replacement, Andy Morris, who stepped in for the unwell Captain, John Williams. Other Team members were - Kevin Jones, Kevin Lloyd, Simon Koscinski and Richard Ackerley. This was a cracking start to the season, well done.

Youth policy for new season !

Our Second Team (NWCSL) got off to a winning start to the new season on 14 September, thanks to a very young team - Rob Evans was the eldest at 29 !

The Team, including two juniors, were Rob, Jack Hayes, Elin Harlow, Huw Williams and Layna Beattie.

It was great to see this young group representing the Club at such a high level of squash.

2016 - 2017 Season

Sponsorship continues ...

Our sincere thanks to Malcolm Williams (Big Mal) on behalf of REDWITHER Ltd for his continuing support of our teams this season, with generous sponsorship of our match balls.

END OF SEASON REPORT (MAY 2017)

All teams in their respective leagues have had a solid second half of the season which shows the strength of team squash at the Club. Apart from a few occasions when work commitments or illness have put the team Captains in a state of panic, teams have been very consistent.

North East Wales League
First Team Finished the season comfortably in the top half of the First Division table.
Second Team Missed out on the Division Two championship by just one point but went on to win the Plate Final in a convincing 5-0 against Buckley. This team was well marshalled by John (Jonald Trump) Williams throughout the season and fully deserved promotion to the top league next season. Third Team Nick Carlton took over the Captain's reins from Tom Trueman, who managed to enrol himself onto a college course on Tuesday evenings (not good planning) !
Nick took the opportunity to introduce a number of players experienced & inexperienced (at Team Squash) into the side and they very nearly won promotion to the Second Division. It all looks good for next season !

North West Counties Squash League
First Team They had a great season winning the Second Division West region league. The Team led by Darren Lee was very consistent all season, a major factor in winning the league.
Second Team They finished mid-table in the same Division as our First Team and could have been challenging for the top spot with the First Team had it not been for a few injuries and work issues affecting the team selection.
Third Team An excellent season, winning promotion to the Third Division by a considerable margin. They missed out on the overall League Championship at the Semi Final stage. It's going to be a lot tougher for all concerned next season.

Congratulations to all the players who turn out week in week out, for the commitment you all put in into representing the Squash Club.

NW Second Team - May 2017

MID SEASON REPORT (DECEMBER 2016)

North East Wales League

Our First Team finished in Second place over the first half in Division One, having had a 13 point penalty deduction for fielding a junior player late in the season (where is the encouragement ?). This cost us the League title, but never mind, these trivial matters have a habit of rebounding.

The Seconds just managed to avoid relegation from Division Two, on the last game of the season thanks to the management skills of Team Captain, John (KimJon ill) Wiliams. Quite why and how this team found itself in such a precarious position is a mystery as they have a strong side. Lets hope they can rectify matters in the second half.

The Third Team, with new Captain Nick Carlton (taking over from Tom Trueman) organising very efficiently, had a good season and consolidated their position in Division Three. On various occasions, three juniors were introduced into the Team - Thomas Koscinski, Josh Davies and (9 year old) Lewis Davies and all had very creditable wins to their names. We hope that these juniors will be challenging for place in the Second Team next season, so watch out!!

North West Counties League

With three teams in the Leagues, two in Division 2 & one in Division 3, the season was always going to be tough, with the quality of opposing teams as well as player availability, but overall these Teams have all performed better than expected.

The First Team finished at Christmas in second place with old heads, Jonathon Davies & Darren Lee, showing the youngsters, Hannah, John & Jack, how it's done with the benefit of their experience in playing (and drinking) throughout the first half.

The Seconds finished comfortably in mid table - a very good performance considering the number of times some of the higher end players were not available, either due to injury or work commitments.
One very bright point this first half came with the rising star, in young Huw Williams (age 16), joining the Club - Huw is a quality player who will benefit both the Club and his own development in this League.

Our Third Team are sitting proudly on top of Division 4, not unexpected as the Team are very experienced 2nd & 3rd Division players. The overall age of our sides does need to come down, however, so we need to encourage some of our younger players like Josh & Thomas to come through.
Special mention and thanks to Richard Ackerley, Kev Jones, Aled Goddard & Tom Bird who have all been called into the side last minute and performed admirably. Great team spirit.

Congratulations to all the players who have played team squash this 1st half and may it continue into 2017.

Superb start for Third Team

Our NWCSL Third Team have maintained a 100% record so far this season; it's the first season we've put out a Third Team in these Leagues.
