This will be open to all of our members, regardless of age and ability - so let us know if you're interested.

If there is sufficient interest, we will also arrange for a Racketball Taster Session.

Loss of a great racket player

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Geoff Roberts on 16 October, at the age of 81 years.

Our older members will remember Geoff as a superb racket player - so good that he represented Wales at Squash, Tennis and Badmington !

In the 1970s, Geoff was instrumental is establishing the former Wrexham Squash Club in Bryn Estyn Road; he was also a founder of the North Wales Regional Tennis Centre in Wrexham, and was a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Vice President and Counsellor for many years.
RIP Geoff.

Squash for 2028 Olympics !

On 9 October, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games Organising Committee recommended that squash, as one of five sports, be included in the LA2028 Olympic sports programme.

This decision is significant and marks an exciting milestone in the history of squash, as the sport nears inclusion in the Olympic Games for the first time.

It's anticipated the decision on the selection of new sports for 2028 will be ratified at the IOC Session in Mumbai on October 16th.

UPDATE: Squash along with four other sports - Baseball/softball, cricket (T20), flag football, and lacrosse (sixes) have been officially included as additional sports on the LA28 programme.

Maintenance of courts

We're hoping that our courts will soon be closed for essential maintenance - when they would not be available while the work progresses.

Work was due to take place on 20th and 21st July and include the repair and painting of all walls, as well as sanding and re-marking the court floors.

UPDATE: Our contractors, Melior Sports, who are based in Northwich, were unable to attend as scheduled; they will, however, now undertake this work on 21st and 22nd December.

Welsh Team members train at Club

Two senior Welsh Team players met at the Club on 16 May for a tough training session, with no quarter given!

Our First Team member, Rhys Evans (WR 332) worked with Emyr Evans (WR 95) and it was full on for a couple of hours.

PS - Rhys was on his way home after a weekend when he won his second PSA Title, beating a player ranked 200 places higher than him - Congratulations Rhys, the future's looking bright!

Amazing final match performance

Our First Team played their final match in Division 1 of the North West Counties Squash League, at home, on 28 March; it was a must-win match to maintain the Club's status in the region's top flight.

Playing Bollington, another Club seeking to avoid relegation, not only did our team win the match but they won it 5-0 in emphatic style.

Congratulations to all Team members - Owain Taylor, Rhys Evans, Josh Davies, Tim Arthur and Ryan Lewis.

A superb evening and fantastic result for the Club.

Power back on at Club

Following a week of frustration, with team matches and junior coaching sessions, not to mention individual games, all being cancelled, the lights finally came back on at the Club, at end of the day on 21 March.

Our thanks to Gareth, the BS&SC Manager, for keeping us updated on the situation and to all of our members, for your patience and understanding.

Power off at Club

The week commencing 13 March was a bit of a nightmare for the Club, from having only an intermittent electricity supply to no power at all.

The fault was finally tracked down and, on 17 March, we were told that engineers were on site and the remedial works were to include a new strech of cable being run under the roadway from the Main Site. Advice was that this may not be completed before the weekend and so we had to advise all members that no play would be possible until we have a further update on 20 March.

This has been a massive frustration for everyone concerned, including the BS&SC Manager who has worked hard to get a resolution.

Back on court !

Having given birth to her daughter, Harper, on New Years Day, Hannah Davies couldn't wait to get back on court and was briefly seen hitting a ball again on 7 February; that's determination which has to be admired (we think !!).

Into the routine again ...

Feeling the cold

The Squash Club has been experiencing the cold recently, with issues to do with central heating and the Court 2 heater not working.

We apologise to members; it couldn't have occured at a worse time, with the recent high winds and low temperatures.

The BSSC Manager has been informed of the difficulties and frustrations this creates and has arranged for appropriate works to be done.

UPDATE - On 26 January, the necessary repairs were completed to both court heaters.

Beginner sessions in January started

A Club initiative to encourage Beginners into Squash commenced on 7th January with three people attending.

This was an important exercise for the Squash Club, by way of encouraging greater participation in sport.

This exercise by the Club was only made possible thanks to our coaches, who give their time - Mark Davies, Alasdair Blundell and Jim Tunley.

UPDATE - As a result of these sessions, we've had two adults and one junior taking up the sport and they have all joined the Squash Club.

The next stage ... during January 2023

The Squash Club was closed for play on 3rd and part of the 4th January, when we had a new glass court door fitted, plus some necessary repairs to the both front walls.

A second glass door is now due to be fitted on Monday, 16 January.

Part of the benefit in this will be the added safety and greater enhancement of the facility.

The work is being undertaken by CourtCare UK Ltd, who have also been asked to schedule a return visit at the end of this season, for a full court maintenance programme.

On behalf of the Squash Club, huge congratulations to Lewis and Ella Jones on the birth of Harrison, on 18 December 2022.

Uplift continues

The Club's desire to improve the facility took a further step on 14 December with new flooring laid across the public areas. Some finishing off is still to be done - new skirting to be fitted and painted.

In the New Year, attention will be back to some essential court maintenance, as well as improving the toilet and shower areas of the Club.

Fast & Furious 2022

This year's Fast & Furious Christmas Competition took place on 3 December.

Those members who were able to support this year's Christmas event had a good day of friendly banter and play; it was great to see some of our junior players also taking part.

Huge thanks again to our Organiser, Hannah for pulling it all together.
